Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The November issue of Politikon’s Conversations section will examine how democratic systems are responding—and in some cases drifting—in the wake of rapid advances in artificial intelligence.

We invite contributions from scholars, activists, policy analysts, and practitioners who can offer original insights into this evolving relationship.

Submission Guidelines:
  • Essays of up to 500 words
  • Original work not under consideration elsewhere
  • Submission deadline: 30 October
  • Notifications and editorial feedback: 10 November
  • To be published in the November issue
  • Contact Section Editor: Marianna Prysiazhniukpolitikon.conversations@iapss.org
Guiding Question:

We welcome contributors to reflect on the following question:

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in political life — from campaigning and policymaking to information ecosystems and citizen surveillance — what do you see as the most urgent challenge AI poses to democracy, and which democratic practice or institution is best equipped to address it?

Your essay should take a clear position on these questions, offering original insights, arguments, or examples to advance the conversation.

Join the debate and help shape a timely discussion on the democratic implications of AI!
